I first wanted to say, the Arthur Brisbane Children's "Treatment Center" is and awful place, their are many stories online from patients their with details of abuse from the staff, thank god this place is now abandoned. It opened in 1947 and was finally closed in 2005. The building was built with the "cottage" plan, which was a smaller Kirkbride plan. It was originally made for U.S military veterans, but the State Board of Control requested for it to become a psychiatric residential treatment of children. The first building was a mansion, but later in 1972 a larger school building was built. In 1986, a litigation was filed, claiming that their was physical and mental abuse at psychiatric hospitals across New Jersey. It also claimed that the patients were stuffed into small over crowded buildings, and were barely ever let go outside to get fresh air. In 1989 the Brisbane Center had a evaluation, Staff intimidated and bullied patients, and when they would get upset about it, they would punish them. Some children had injuries from improperly implemented and outdated restraint devices and methods. The school, was mean't to hold 40 children, but held 80 children, There was no infirmary on the campus, only dormitories and a school. The start of the end of the treatment center, is when Kelly Young was killed by one of the staff. After a phone call, Kelly became very upset, after the staff said she couldn't have another phone call, she got even more upset. Kelly was in a room with a male social worker that was much bigger then her. She wasn't following his directions, and was in a emotional frenzy. Instead of approaching it with with a non violent solution, like he was supposed to do, he grabbed her and put her in a restraint called a "Basket Hold". He then forced her to the ground and dragged her to a chair. During the whole thing, she was still in a emotional frenzy, and was struggling to breath. Another social worker came and helped Williams restrain her, she lost so much oxygen that she began to turn blue. Then the Brisbane center lied to the family, claiming she had "choked on an object". Williams was fired only months later. I've never heard of any security, or anyone be caught while exploring. I think some buildings are boarded up but you are still able to get in. Rating: I would rate this a 4.5, because its unknown by many people and has not been vandalized that much yet. Their is not much left to see or explore. If you were looking for a place to do a ouija board or talk to spirits, this would be a good place to do it. Sources: http://www.asylumprojects.org/index.php/Main_Page http://tfpnj.blogspot.com/

I was a patient there in the 1980s past 85 at least early 90s. It was kind of shocking because when I read and hear of all these stories I’m kind of amazed because I never witnessed with personal experienceAny abuse from the staff or anything. If anything I kind a love it but I guess sometimes things aren’t always what they seem

Donald, you are a lucky one. Most of us were seriously verbally and physically abused. I was there in 1972-73. Worst 18 months of my life.

I went there on 8/28/20. As i was walking the main road to leave, I saw a dark purple ford van parked on the side, i tried to quickly go in the woods but the van pulled a U turn and an old guy was driving it, yelled at me for being on private property and to get out immediately. he followed me in his van as i was just walking out of the big gate, two cop cars came and i had to talk to them. now I have a “defiant trespasser” charge pending against me. let’s hope i beat the case next month!

I used to go here with my friends around 2013-2014. We never went in any buildings, we were scared of alarms. We’d never go too far in because there was a building that had all new looking vehicles, like work vans, parked there and we heard a rumor it was being re-purposed into a police academy. One thing that did terrify me was how the power was always on? Also, I SWEAR one of the windows in one of the buildings looked like someone was watching tv in there and once I thought I heard an AC running. Would not chance going back especially after the fire.
