Hinchcliffe was opened in 1932 as a 100,000 seat outdoor stadium. The stadium was built to hopefully be a "paying investment" to help with citizens in the town from the Great Depression. The stadium hosted the "Colored Championship of The Nation" and also the "Black Yankees" made the stadium their home.  The stadium also hosting boxing games, car racing and pro- football. Though the primary use of the stadium was actually for two nearby highschool teams. In the later days, Duke Ellington also had one of his last big concerts at the stadium and In 1988 it became the home for the New Jersey Eagles. Hinchcliffe was used through the 1990's, it started to decline and fall into disrepair. The stadium was then abandoned in 1997.
